The Immediate Family Signs Multiple Record Deal with QVR

Quarto Valley Records signed a multiple record deal with The Immediate Family, which as grammymuseum.org states, consists of five of the world’s most iconic and recorded session/touring musicians. The group began as a studio project, recording Danny Kortchmar’s upcoming solo CD, set to release this spring, with guest performances by James Taylor, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, and Michael McDonald. However, the core band on the album decided to keep the vibe going and take the project on the road.
On guitar and lead vocals is Danny Kortchmar, who has played, produced and written for James Taylor, Don Henley, Carole King, Jackson Browne and many more. Also on guitar and vocals is Waddy Wachtel, the consummate rock guitarist, who has played with many of the same artists, including many years with Stevie Nicks, Kieth Richards, and the late Warren Zevon with whom he co-wrote and produced a number of hit songs. The band also includes one of the most recorded and revered rhythm sections in the world—Leland Sklar on bass and Russ Kunkel on drums. Together they have played on close to 5,000 records, many of them classics in the rock ‘n’ roll pantheon. Finally, lending guitar/vocals and co-production on the album, Steve Postell is a seasoned touring/session musician who has worked with Jennifer Warnes, David Crosby and many others.

Edgar Winter Billboard Interview on Tribute Album for Brother Johnny

Edgar Winter’s interview with Billboard on the upcoming tribute album for his brother Johnny Winter is one to read! Below is a snapshot from Billboard. You can read the full interview here: FULL INTERVIEW.

Winter says the 16-song set will include a mix of Johnny Winter originals as well as some of his signature covers, such as Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode,” the Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” Bob Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited” and Rock Derringer’s “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo,” which Johnny Winter recorded first, in 1970.

Guests include Joe Walsh, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibson, Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Robben Ford, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Bobby Rush, with others to be announced in the future.  The as-yet-untitled album will be released by Quarto Valley Records.

“I think I see Johnny in a totally different light than other people do,” Winter says. “He first and foremost loved the blues, but he had a great voice, and in the early years when we were playing together he would sing beautiful ballads like ‘Cryin'” by Roy Orbison in a completely clear, beautiful voice. So I’m going to do some of those songs that are my personal favorites, too.

“I think everybody’s gonna love this album, Johnny’s fans as well as mine.”
